Synopsis
A Montana ranching family faces off against others who are encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to "forget" his Montana accent and revert to his usual SoCal speaking voice..
Costner is a great actor as the lead Dutton
Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows That Aren’t on Your Radar (2018). (Review is for the first two seasons only) I went into this series not expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are top-notch. It’s basically a Montana mob war with the occasional huge dose of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horseback while fishing)!
The show falters early in the second season, but picks itself up midway through
The series is at its best when it presents a chessboard on which the Duttons and their enemies move. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and she acts poorly, the story is clumsily thrown off, and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Hauser as Rip is perhaps the strongest acting (aside from Costner himself) and I look forward to any scenes that Rip is in.
Thomas Rainwater is also excellent
The story is buzzing and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s ‘All The Pretty Horses’ was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show feels similar. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
