The first episode felt like a 50-50
Synopsis
After months of isolation, Isherwood "Ish" Williams learns that much of the world has been struck by a mysterious disease. Yet, despite his instincts for further isolation, Ish sets out to develop a new civilization. Based on the novel “Earth Alive” by George R. Stewart. When episode two came out, things took a huge turn
The premise seemed interesting enough to ignore all the plot holes and I had second thoughts about the show. I think the lights do indeed stay on in Vegas, since Vegas is powered by the Hoover Dam. The first 30 minutes of this 50-minute ordeal were a bunch of nothing. It’s like watching a love story/soap opera, cliché after cliché… You’d think the last 20 minutes would be redemptive, but no.
Which is solved by feral cats
The most exciting scene is a brief rat infestation. Does any of this make sense to anyone? And even if it does, why is this a topic? And how come this guy has been living alone for a year and hasn’t installed a solar panel? Or more importantly, why hasn’t he found a house that already has one installed?
And as a result, nothing happens
Surely there are better houses than his old family home, houses by a river, a lake, an ocean – all major food sources? Instead, he decides to stay in a random suburban cul-de-sac… We see that he’s lonely, yet he does literally nothing to scan his surroundings. He has no radio, he doesn’t leave any signs, he doesn’t search. This is basically the most boring lead character ever..
