A grieving therapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks
He ignores his training and his ethics and finds himself making big changes in people’s lives — including his own. The cast of ‘Shrinking’ share the key moments that defined their characters in Season 1, and reveal who did the best Harrison Ford impression. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to star in the series, Segel said that originally Goldstein wanted a “Harrison Ford type,” and wanted to audition people who resembled Ford. Segel told Goldstein they had to at least take it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford was being introduced to the project, sparking interest from other big-name actors.
Jason Segel is perfectly cast in this script
In the end, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him to take the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but was nonetheless elated. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great too.
And Jessica is perfect
He has the weird, idiotically confident energy needed for this role. Her humor fits the dialogue just right. This is the new breed of situation dramas. No real punchlines, just engaging personalities with a dash of quirk and family circumstances that are a little above the norm but still relatable.
You’d lose your driver’s license in a heartbeat
Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. Just impossible. But we allow metaphorical situations in the drama. And in this script, we feel a strong sense of purpose in the decisions.
For me, it’s easy and fun
We have to give the writers the benefit and try to get to the essence. Other reviewers seemed to have trouble.
