Katie, a freelance video editor in dire need of work, receives a high-paying offer from an anonymous employer to edit a mysterious and bizarre video. Lacking money and facing layoffs, Katie eagerly accepts the gig. The video shows people being tortured and killed on camera – obviously just an elaborate fabrication. But when her first job leads to an even more lucrative job and disturbingly realistic abuse films, Katie’s life begins to fall apart. Strange characters haunt her apartment, terrifying nightmares keep her awake, and a mysterious illness afflicts her cat. Only when Katie finally decides to quit her job does she realize just how cruel her anonymous employer really is and the lengths she will go to to break the contract.
